Hello, I'm Sarah, the founder of Fleurieu Ceramics. Although I originate from the Cotswolds in the UK, my journey led me to Australia as a backpacker when I was 21. It was there that I fell head over heels for this stunning country and made a heartfelt promise to one day call it home. In 2007, that dream became a reality when my husband and I, along with our two daughters, relocated to Adelaide. Settling down on the enchanting Fleurieu Peninsula was an easy choice to make. I'm continually amazed by the breathtaking beauty that surrounds me here, especially the rugged coastline and beaches. The colours, textures, and untamed nature of this coastal landscape are a constant source of inspiration for my ceramic creations.
With a love and interest in art and design, I pursued my studies in both the UK and South Australia, exploring various artistic mediums. However, I found my true calling in ceramics, which has become my preferred medium. Surface design is my particular interest, and it's through this passion that I aim to seize the essence of the Fleurieu.
I enjoy capturing the coastal influence with a muted blue and green palette in my work. I take great pleasure in creating ceramic beach mugs that highlight local areas, allowing you to savour the beauty of our nearby beaches.
Moreover, I have come to deeply cherish the people and the sense of community in this area. It truly feels like home.
“ Fleurieu Ceramics acknowledges that we are meeting on the traditional Country of the Kaurna people of the Adelaide Plains and pays respect to Elders past and present. We recognise and respect their cultural heritage, beliefs and relationship with the land. We acknowledge that they are of continuing importance to the Kaurna people living today. And we also extend that respect to other Aboriginal Language Groups and other First Nations."
